Future Genres

Here's what I'm thinking for selections for 2009. What do you think? (This isn't in any particular order. A little later, I'll post the titles for each genre.)

1. Pulitzer Prize Winner
2. General Non-Fiction Selection
3. General Fiction Selection
4. Educational (Self-Help/Philosophy/Spiritual Growth)
5. Biography or Autobiography
6. Historical (fiction or non-fiction)
7. Fun (Comedy or Fluff)
8. Mystery (Spy Thriller/Espionage type or Holmes/Christie type)
9. Current (Best-Seller List or Movie)
10. Foreign (Author or Subject)
11. Miscellany (Poetry, Quotes, Plays, etc.)
12. Great Books (http://books.mirror.org/gb.titles.html)

Which category would Breathing Lessons fit under?

My suggestions: Educational- The Last Lecture; Biography- Three Cups of Tea; Current Bestseller/Movie- Marley and Me; Foreign- Anna Karenina; Great Books- The Iliad or The Odyssey (I teach these!), Shakespeare, or Jane Austen! :)

Gigi: No worries!! This is supposed to be FUN! If it's not fun, then don't do it! FUNFUNFUN!

FTH: Uh-Oh. I appreciate your suggestions, REALLY, but I just spent HOURS (literally) picking and choosing, which wasn't the biggest time-consuming part, but then making a list of titles with URL links to Amazon.com with prices, page counts, product descriptions, and so forth. YIKES! I stopped to take a nap before posting the list and when I went back online, I saw your notes. SORRY!!! I'll see what I can do to switch some things around. Also, you are right on about Homer being a great book author. Both are good picks. I just don't know how they'd fly with the rest of the club. I had picked Henry James' The Golden Bowl. Would that work for you? It's 600+ pages, so it's going to be challenging enough already without going Greek. :o) And I had picked Revolutionary Road for the current bestseller "movie" one. What do you think? Upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet film. I figured Leo would be a good pic for the group. :o) This is getting to be a really long comment; maybe I should have emailed you! I DEF wanted to do Austen or Shakespeare but thought that would be slightly self-serving since I personally LOVE THEM!

RISSALEE: Thanks for all your hard work and dedication! Did you know? On amazon.com, you can make book lists and then we can all see them? Or you could make a wish list and put all your books in that and we can buy from there? Then you could just post that link? But it will also be nice to have all the info. on the blog. I think I have a few lists started from awhile ago... It will also be good to know the books ahead of time because you can't beat their $25 free shipping! ;) I have the amazon credit card which pays triple the points on amazon purchases which equals gift card! woohoo! Amazon is my fave place! :)

FTH: Amazon is definitely a favorite of mine too! But I did not even THINK about a wish list that I could link. DUH! :o) Next time!
